Ember Tetra
Fish code No.0939
The Ember Tetra is one of the smallest fish available in the hobby, rarely reaching above 2-2.5cm, and has only been seen on sale in the trade fairly recently. The fish are a colourful species and will brighten up any tank, contrasting well against plants and decor. Mature fish become a bright colour varying from copper to orange-red, hence their common name of 'Ember', or in some cases 'Fire Tetra'. Like other small tetras, these are shoaling fish so must be kept in a group. In particular because they are so small, they need to be in groups to re-inforce confidence in one another. Despite their size, they are a relatively robust fish, and will settle well into a suitable aquarium. Ideally, they should be provided with planted areas and to get the best colour the water should not be to hard or alkaline. Tankmates, fairly obviously, should be small to avoid predation, and Ember Tetras will mix well with other peaceful species. The fish will take flake food, although some specimens may be reluctant to feed from the surface, so small sinking foods may be required. A varied diet and some small frozen foods such as daphnia and cyclops will help to maintain top colour and health
