Paradise Fish
Fish code No.1706
The Paradise Fish was one of the first tropical fish to be imported and kept ornamentally. The reason for this is that it is also one of toughest and was able to withstand the harsh conditions of the time where most other fish would die during transport. In the aquarium the Paradise Fish is equally hardy and adaptable and a well recommended aquarium fish. The Paradise fish can be kept in almost any water conditions and is equally at home in unheated aquariums. The only drawback the fish has is that the males will, as they age, become increasingly aggressive towards other males and will often bully females. To avoid harm, more than one male should only be kept together when a large group of the fish are kept, this will 'spread out' the aggression of a dominant male. Alternatively keep one male to several females. Providing plenty of hiding spots amongst plants will both create a better environment for the fish and help to reduce aggression. A varied diet will keep the fish in top condition. A number of bred varieties are available including albino, long finned and black forms.
