Snakeskin Gourami

Trichogaster pectoralis

The Snakeskin Gourami may not be as brightly coloured as some tropical fish but it has a certain charm and is well suited to a community of other gouramies or medium sized peaceful fish. The aquarium should be well planted to provide plenty of hiding spots. Although not a fast grower, the Snakeskin Gourami can reach up to 20cm so it is best to avoid mixing with very small fish. A peaceful and relatively hardy fish.

Family Osphronemidae (Gouramies) | Synonyms Trichopodus pectoralis, Osphromenus trichopterus | Other names Snake-Skinned Gourami | Origin Asia: Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam | Breeding Bubble nester | Natural Water Conditions pH 6-8, very soft to soft | Natural Habitat Heavily vegetated shallow or slow moving waters, flooded forest areas. | Sexing Males have a pointed dorsal fin, females may have more orange fins
