A commonly available and popular aquarium plant which is tolerant and adaptable. The leaves are short and are light green towards the bottom and a rose red-brown colour towards the top. Regular pruning will keep the plant healthy. When the plant reaches towards the surface, leaves become red and compact. Ideal conditions would include strong lighting and an iron rich, fine substrate. The variable reddish colour and noticeable viens are likley to be caused by the "Rosanervis" colour virus, deliberately introduced into this cultured variety.
