Limnophila aromatica can be easily noticed by its distinctive smell when out of water. The plant is often used as a herb and is cultivated in rice paddies for this purpose, hence its other common name 'Rice Paddy Herb'. In the aquarium, good lighting, hard water and additional co2 will help the plant thrive. Under intense light the leaves will develop a purple colour. A number of slight variants are cultivated.
