Although males may squabble occasionally and whilst breeding, the Banded Gourami is a very peaceful fish that will mix well with other peaceful tank mates. Banded Gouramies can be a little timid and nervous, sometimes leading to ill health if kept in a stressful environment. Ideal conditions would be a well-planted aquarium with plenty of hiding spots and a varied diet, soft water is also beneficial. An albino variety is also available.
