Silver Arowana Tropical Fish Learn all about the Silver Arowana's feeding habits and food types, its behaviour, its origins, its natural habitats, is it male or female, breeding advice and information, suitable tank mates, its sizing and growth range, minimum tank size, water PH and more. Use our fish community creator tool to plan your tank set up and ensure that the Silver Arowana is the right fish for your aquarium.
Unfortunately the Arowana still occasionally appears for sale in aquarium shops. Considering that this fish grows up to 100cm in an aquarium, and up to 150cm in the wild, it is obviously unsuitable for home aquariums; shops which stock these fish are acting highly irresponsibly. Do not purchase these fish unless you have an aquarium over 400cm (!) in which to house them. The Arowana is a surface dwelling fish which is tolerant of a wide range of water conditions, they are predatory so can only be kept with other large fish. The aquarium should be covered, as the Arowana are excellent jumpers.
This fish is excluded from the Compatibility Checker as it is unsuitable for community aquariums or may require expert care.
