Macronutrients / Micronutrients
The terms macro or micronutrients are usually used when referring to aquarium plants. Macronutrients are nutrients that are required by plants in large amounts and include Calcium (Ca), Carbon (C), Magnesium (Mg), Phosphorus (P), Potassium (K), and Nitrogen (N). Micronutrients are only needed in small amounts but are still vital to healthy plants and include Iron (Fe), Manganese (Mn), Molybdenum (Mo), Zinc (Zn), Boron (B), and Nickel (Ni). Most of the micronutrients are provided by tapwater, or by mineral additives whilst some of the Macronutrients may need to be added by the use of carbon dioxide fertilizers and/or liquid or substrate fertilizers.
