Swim Bladder

A gas-filled sack or organ found in most aquarium fish that allows the fish to remain neutrally buoyant underwater. Fish that experience difficulties with swim bladders may show signs of awkward movements, or may rest at the bottom or surface of the tank. Feeding a varied diet and/or the addition of salt can aid in preventing swim bladder problems in prone species such as fancy goldfish.
